Positive Impact and Legacy

Create a positive and lasting legacy for Bristol, Bath and beyond long after your event ends.

Events that do more than inspire

Would you like to extend the positive impact of your event beyond the walls of your event space? Whether you're looking to reduce your environmental footprint, engage local communities, support education, or drive economic benefit across the West of England, we are available to offer support and advice on ways to generate a positive impact and lasting legacy on our communities and residents as a direct result of your event taking place in our cities and region.

Opportunities can range from arranging a food bank donation point for delegates, to foregoing the traditional goody bag in favour of a local charity donation, to participating in an offsite team-building activity that directly contributes to a community project.

We can provide a list of ideas and charitable projects which would love your support. We do though understand that every event is different and so we will work with you to understand the required outcomes of your event. We can then make suggestions and introductions. Please contact events@visitwest.co.uk to discuss this in more detail.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Visit West supports the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals, a global framework guiding governments, organisations and individuals in prioritising social and environmental sustainability.

Explore the UN SDGs

Our work to promote sustainable business events is informed by the UN SDGs. Aligning the business events industry with these goals creates an opportunity to leverage the sector's influence, innovation and global reach in support of sustainable development.

VisitBritain SDGs Toolkit: Pathway to Progress

MeetEngland in partnership with #MEET4IMPACT has developed an Impact Framework. The framework spans eight interconnected areas, giving you a structured approach to understanding and communicating the full value your event generates across society, the environment and the economy.

Legacy in Action

Our Three Legacy Pillars

We work across three interconnected areas to help your event create lasting, meaningful change in our region.

🎓 Education and Knowledge

The West of England is home to four universities and four colleges. We can help connect your event with the region's academic community to create skills, volunteering and research opportunities.

  • Student volunteer programmes - contact us to find out how
  • Engage university researchers and faculties
  • Workshop and speaker partnerships with higher education
  • Leave-behind resources and learning materials

Aligns with SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 8: Decent Work

🌱 Environmental

Reduce the environmental impact of your event and give resources a second life through our partnerships with local sustainability organisations.

  • Too Good To Go - reduce food waste by connecting surplus food with those who need it
  • Fair Share South West - arrange a delegate food bank donation point at your event
  • Children's Scrap Store - donate surplus materials and equipment (stationery, fabric, conference materials) for reuse in schools and community projects
  • Organise a delegate tree-planting morning or habitat restoration activity

Aligns with SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and SDG 13: Climate Action

🤲 Community and Social

Some of the most powerful event legacies start with a simple act of generosity. We partner with local organisations to make it easy for your event to give back.

  • Redirect goody bag budgets to local charities
  • Offsite team-building activities that directly support community projects, from allotment volunteering to school visits
  • Partner with social enterprises for catering, printing and AV

Aligns with SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 2: Zero Hunger and SDG 11: Sustainable Communities
